Dentures are the "good helper" for the elderly. However, without properly care, it will cause to oral diseases or other diseases. Dentures are most afraid of "dry, dirty, hot and hard". With proper care, you can ensure the dentures are hygienic, clean, strong, and effectively extend their service life.
1. Avoid letting the denture dry - When not in use, place the denture in a clean soak solution or tap water. Never use hot water which can cause dentures to deform.
2. Brush the dentures - Clean the dentures with a toothbrush every day to remove food residue and tartar and prevent dentures from defection.
Step 1: Soak
Put a denture cleaning tablet into warm water, do not use hot water to avoid denture damage, and soak the denture according to the time specified. The amount of water should cover the denture completely. Washing dentures help to remove plaque, but solution soaking only can clean the surface. It is recommended that you use professional denture cleaning tablets, such as Polident®, in your daily cleaning procedures to ensure 99.9% of bacteria that causing odors are eliminated.
Step 2: Brushing
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub your dentures using cleaning solution to remove any debris. You can use a professional toothbrush that cleans your dentures daily. Try to avoid the use of ordinary toothpaste, because its abrasive nature will cause tiny scratches on the surface of the denture, thus providing a place for bacterial growth. Using professional toothpaste to care for your dentures will give you more satisfaction in terms of oral hygiene and denture care.
Step three: Rinse
After soaking and brushing, thoroughly rinse the dentures under running tap water. Clean your dentures, and insist on daily cleaning to ensure that your full or partial dentures are clean.
3. Care for your mouth - Clean the gums, tongue and palate with a soft brush before installing the denture every morning. This can stimulate blood circulation in the tissue and help to remove tartar.
4. Consult a dentist or denture technician - when the denture is broken, chipped, cracked or loose, please consult promptly. Never make adjustments by yourself, it may damage the dentures which cause unable to repair.
